Summary - Providing assurance on a major platform migration plan.
Situation - After a number of false starts, our client needed to present to board a revised roadmap of a major platform migration in which there needed to be a high level of confidence.
Task - CBS were asked to review the plan provided by the key supplier to the programme.
Action - CBS deployed a highly experienced IT professional to review the plan provided by the supplier and engage with the client programme team to understand their underlying planning assumptions to determine overall alignment and probability of success
It became apparent that the revised plan provided by the supplier was ‘happy path’ to migrate to a new platform (never before used in the UK) and included no scheduled contingency and insufficient time allocated to key activities to deliver a quality solution. The implementation approach was not aligned with the client’s risk appetite and introduced an unacceptable risk of potential customer dissatisfaction.
Additionally, the programme had no integrated plan with all the other components required to deliver an end to end solution, with an absence of clearly identified dependencies and associated owners.
Result - After receiving the assessment from CBS, the client recognised that their original assumptions and approach to the programme were no longer valid and undertook a formal reappraisal of their objectives to reset the programme on more solid foundations for success.
